Working with us
How much do your services cost?
Our fees depend on the work involved. After a free consultation we send a written fixed-fee quote, so you know the full cost before we start.
Can I switch to you from my current accountant?
Yes. We contact your previous accountant for the handover, take over HMRC authorisation and check that nothing is outstanding.
Which languages do you work in?
We work in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, and our written materials are available in English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
Do I need to visit your office?
No. Most clients work with us entirely online — documents are shared securely and meetings happen by phone or video call.
Self Assessment
Do I need to file a Self Assessment tax return?
You usually need to file if you are self-employed, a company director, a landlord, have untaxed income above certain limits, or have overseas income. We can confirm your position in a short call.
When is the Self Assessment deadline?
Online returns are due by 31 January after the end of the tax year, which runs from 6 April to 5 April. Any tax owed is also due on 31 January.
What expenses can I claim as a sole trader?
Costs incurred wholly and exclusively for your business, such as equipment, software, travel and a proportion of home running costs. We review your expenses to make sure nothing is missed.
How do I register as self-employed?
You register with HMRC for Self Assessment by 5 October after the end of the tax year in which you started trading. We can complete the registration for you.
Companies & property
Should I be a sole trader or a limited company?
It depends on your profits, plans and personal circumstances. We compare your take-home pay under both options before you decide.
How should I pay myself as a company director?
Most directors take a combination of a small salary and dividends. The right split depends on your profits and other income, and we review it each year.
What can landlords deduct from rental income?
Typical deductions include letting agent fees, repairs, insurance and certain service costs. Mortgage interest for individual landlords is given as a basic-rate tax credit rather than a deduction.
Should I hold property in a limited company?
A company can suit some landlords, but transferring existing property may trigger Capital Gains Tax and Stamp Duty. We model the numbers before you make any change.
Overseas & Making Tax Digital
Do I need to report income from overseas?
UK residents are generally taxed on worldwide income. New arrivals may qualify for the four-year foreign income and gains regime. Double tax relief can prevent you paying tax twice.
What is Making Tax Digital for Income Tax?
From April 2026, sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 must keep digital records and send quarterly updates to HMRC. The threshold falls to £30,000 from April 2027.
